The Northern Utah Early Childhood Conference: Inclusive Environments is an event in Logan, Utah at The Riverwoods Conference Center, designed exclusively for practitioners in the dynamic field of early childhood education. For the Inclusive Environments Conference, located at The Riverwoods Conference Center in Logan, Utah.

Scholarships are Available

Receive up to $500 each year to cover costs for attending a qualifying conference in youth or early childhood. Eligible applicants must work at least 15 hours a week in a program approved by Utah’s Department of Health & Human Services – Child Care Licensing. Apply by May 31, 2024.

Day One: Leadership

  • Check In: 4:30pm
  • Dinner: 5pm
  • Workshop: 6pm – 8:30pm
    • Sascha Longstreth, Ph.D will conduct a workshop focused on creating effective discipline policies that supports social and emotional competence in young children.

Day Two: Practitioner

  • Check In: 8am
  • Keynote: 9am – 10:30am
    • Keynote speaker, Jaclyn Joseph, Ph.D, shares her life and work experiences centered around inclusion and belonging. Her story has led her to a lifelong career in early childhood education.
  • Breakout Session 1: 10:45am -11:45am
  • Lunch: 12pm – 1:30pm
  • Breakout Session 2: 1:30pm – 2:30pm

Keynote Speakers

Sascha Longstreth, Ph.D

Sascha Longstreth, PhD, is Interim Department Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Child and Family Development at San Diego State University. She began her career as a preschool teacher and has extensive experience in a variety of educational settings. She is co-author, along with Dr. Sarah Garrity, of award-winning books on developing and implementing effective discipline policies in programs serving young children. She currently serves as Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Early Development (CEED), a transdisciplinary, research-based, training facility with a holistic approach to supporting early childhood development, mental health, and early childhood education in San Diego County and beyond.

Jaclyn Joseph, Ph.D

Dr. Jackie Joseph is a Research Associate Professor at the University of Denver Positive Early Learning Experiences Center, where her work promotes high-quality inclusion across all levels of the early childhood care and education system. She specifically focuses on family partnerships and evidence-based strategies for fostering each and every young child’s social, emotional, and behavioral development. Jackie’s experience working in childcare administration offers her an applied understanding of implementing and scaling inclusive practices and models, and particularly the Pyramid and LEAP Models. Dr. Joseph has two young children herself, one of whom has a rare genetic syndrome. Her anti-ableist research and work are strongly influenced by her family’s experiences and center around diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. In all of her projects, Jackie strives to co-create opportunities and spaces that ensure that all young children, disabled and nondisabled, and their families experience meaningful inclusion and belonging.
